MULTISECTORIAL FORUM FOR THE LAND OF CHACO
Statement of August 3, 2009
NEW ABORIGINAL AND RURAL MOBILIZATION
missing over two months so that we remember the Last Day of Freedom of Indigenous Peoples. That historic day for America invites us in a special way to Chaco citizens to recall everything that happened from there: a long series of usurpations, looting and destruction cultural, social and environmental impact of land expropriation and natural resources, expulsions, extermination of entire communities and, for survivors, the reduction in the worst conditions of subjugation, disease and malnutrition. No one does not condemn that past. But understand that this is repeated the same attitudes, with the same and painful results. Today
small farmers and the indigenous natives are also evicted from their land and lose their way and means of life, health and housing. The situation is much worse with the prolonged drought affecting our region and is a consequence of the depredations committed on the environment and the desire for wealth resources.
~ In the situation described, the Multisectoral Forum on the Tierra del Chaco reminds the public how, despite successive requests for reports and hearings of this institution Mr. Governor of the province, the comptroller of the Institute Settlement, the Commission of Inquiry into Land and other executive positions of power should give answers, we have not obtained. Ignore if they do not want to give them, not have them or hide them.
~ The memory of the citizens should also remember the strong warnings to disseminate this forum regarding the installation of the pig iron plant in the town of Puerto Vilelas, which produce, as well as pollution that greatly impair the health of residents, many others environmental disturbances, of which the most important is the increase of deforestation of our native forests and devastated, because they, to cater to this industry, must necessarily double its current coal production. ~
Multisectoral Forum on Earth Chaco also reminds that, if adopted as it was conceived the Provincial Land Management Law of Forests, would be authorized the clearing of 2,371,307 hectares of native forest, with a high percentage in areas agroclimatic risk, which means that when being stripped of forest soil, erosion will be intensified and alternation, and this, of droughts and floods as a result of environmental change. This will result in more misery, eviction of peasant families, with an increase in pests and diseases (Chagas, leishmaniasis, dengue and etc.) produced by kissing bugs, leeches, mosquitoes., which will add more diseases found fertile ground in the depressed health of human beings and their environment.
~ The Forum for the Land reminds citizens to express publicly that all these concerns and ailments, was carried out in Resistance, October 10, 2008, the largest multisectoral mobilization in recent years. However, one year of the march and the camp that followed, there is no response to the claimed recovery of 1,500,000 hectares of public lands fraudulently awarded by previous administrations; awards that seem to continue to jealously protected by the current government. Meanwhile, these lands remain in the hands of businesses that operate illegally and illegitimately while farmers Chaco, its rightful owners, grow the poverty belts of urban centers.
emerge as new cases of unclear procedures in the management of these allotments of land by the current administration and to take public knowledge through media reports. These include the granting illegal, trust of thousands of hectares to organizations such as the Agrarian League, an organization of which, remarkably, the auditors are part of Colonization.
~ In the camp following the mobilization October 2008, hundreds of farmers, indigenous and urban organizations across the province, led to an agreement signed by the governor of Chaco, by which the provincial government undertook to meet the basic needs and demands of water and care health in several locations, housing, provision of inputs for growing cotton, scholarships and other claims that reiterated the campers. But then, the degree of compliance by the state is not reached 50%, so now stalled the implementation of obligations and no prospect of resuming the activities. Despite the publicity undertaken by the government about their achievements in these issues, the ads are not real.
~ It is by this that today, the Multisectoral Forum on the Tierra del Chaco community expressed their strong support and total support to farmers and indigenous communities in its renewed intention to mobilize to get the answers you have been denied.
citizens need to take fully aware that the systems remain intact appropriation of land, unsustainable production and environmental pollution. This model greatly harms and close by to the most vulnerable to serious threats to their lives, threatens an immediate step that extends over the rest of the society.
